Project Accountant

Job overview

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, the Project Accountant's main purpose is to design, implement and deliver effective systems and processes within the Finance Team and provide financial support to organisational projects.

The Project Accountant will support the Head of Finance to deliver operational and strategic plans, and as a senior member of the Finance team, ensure that financial controls are implemented and applied throughout the Group, whilst being responsible for the effective and accurate financial accounting and management of organisational wide projects.

The postholder will:

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with the IT providers of the financial management system, the rent accounting system and other key systems.
• Develop detailed knowledge of the functionality available within the systems utilised by the Finance Team.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships both internally and with other housing providers to understand and analyse how systems currently operate, to determine where improvements are required and would have the greatest impact on operational effectiveness
• Lead and monitor the implementation of system improvements, develop robust, prioritised, resourced plans to implement systems improvements and conduct reviews of all improvement projects, including evaluating the outcomes.
• Research best practice in financial and rent accounting systems.
• Ensure organisational wide projects are correctly and appropriately accounted for.
• Provide financial support to projects including guidance and support on financial matters to project leads, creating reports and attending meetings as required.
• Lead on any financial system changes.

The Project Accountant will have wide ranging exposure to all areas of the MSV business so will be responsible for developing strong internal stakeholder relationships as well as developing mutually beneficial relationships and external links to the organisation where appropriate.

Person overview

You will be a fully Qualified accountant or final stages of qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA) with extensive experience working in a complex finance team within a regulated sector, ideally social housing.
